Shanghai Daily's e-paper launched on January 1, became the first newspaper from Asia to be available for download via Amazon.com.
The electronic version of Shanghai Daily can now be downloaded and read from Amazon's Kindle device at a cost of US$5.99 per month, making the paper accessible in the United States. Because kindle uses the latest wireless technology, the most advanced ink, and a non reflective screen, many newspapers can be available on it.
So far, “18 newspapers around the world are found on kindle, including top US newspapers such as The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post”. SHANGHAI Daily's e-paper is also available for download via http://www.shanghaidaily.com/.
Moreover, this e-paper can be read not only on kindle, for instance it can be read most portable devices including the Blackberry, iPhone and PSP.
It is updated twice a day automatically via a wireless network.Shanghai Daily has also developed new software, My News, to let readers download the e-paper more conveniently and any time they want.
"The paper's online team has just won a gold award for Best Online Journalism among all media in Asia". These awards are organized by IFRA, "an association that supports news publications in achieving higher standards of quality and creativity." The online award was presented for the first time in the competition's seven-year history.
